How does fasting keep you spiritually focused during the week?

How can we express to God that we are hungry for His presence and sincere in our seeking? How does having less food become a path to nearness with God?

And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. – Matt 6:16

Jesus referred to fasting as part of a healthy walk with God and a positive spiritual rhythm in our lives (Matthew 6:16). Be intentional to skip a meal or meals on Tuesday and devote extra time in prayer and God’s Word. There is spiritual power when we fast and pray. May God awaken our souls and transform our cities as we collectively fast on Tuesdays.
